As we talked in previews article targeting in SMS marketing can lower your costs and of course increase positive customers reaction. In SMS marketing as in every other marketing way it is better to know your customer. Recognition of customers will give you possibility to give customer what he/she needs.
How can you know customer?
First of all, SMS marketing begins with customers personal data collection. To send SMS advertising you need only phone numbers, but you can also collect more information (name, surname, city, email and ect.). Personal information you can get about your customer usually depends on the way you collect data.
1. Loyalty/Discount Card – if you offer such cards, usually you ask customers to fill all personal information. Loyality/Discount Cards also can give you information about customers habits: where they shop, how many they spend per one time/per month, what products they usually buy and ect.

3. Different promotions – “buy and win” type promotions is a great way to collect data, because customers needs to register for the prize. Registration form usually contains age, city, sex and ect. fields.
This is only three different ways of data collection, but as you see, they let to know your customers better: you can find out in which city most of your customers lives, how many they spend per month and what product/service interests them. Even knowing the city where customer lives allows you to send relevant to customers SMS advertisements. Customer will get information they need and can possible use and be satisfied.
How to use targeting in SMS marketing?
Collecting and analyzing customers personal information will let you know customers and send target SMS advertising to them.
