Team building parties costs a lot. Does it bring value?

It is used to think, that team building makes people closer, work more efficient, results better. A lot of money are spent to organize team building parties. What result usually is achieved?

  • Played funny games (sometimes work simulations) which are far away from things needed in work place.
  • People got an expensive party (usually more or less drunk and relaxed).
  • Talked and acquainted people which usually do not talk and meet in work.
  • Felt – how big company is and that participant is part of that big, if corporation brought all staff from regions to one place.

Why team building simulation work so week?

  • You do a for instance a sales call simulation – it is still a simulation – not real life.
  • Try after simulation to call for for first time to the real customer after any simulation and You will feel like a standing before mountain in the beginning to climb. Wet like just after shower. Why so?
  •  Because in front of You is trainer and he cannot answer with so many various answers and emotions as real customers do – so effective are first to trials. To start a skill – You have to do 20 – 30 of trials.
  • If a person did not call to 20 – 30 customers -  instantly after simulation -  simulation effect is lost.  Melted like a snow.
